A welcome is in order I suppose.

Hello, and welcome to Behind the lens.

My name is Matthew Furukawa and I'm the photographer... behind the lens as it were.

I was encouraged by a friend to document my journey as I'm trying to grow as a wildlife photographer. My goal is to become good enough to be considered a professional wildlife photographer, having said that, I don't have any intention of quitting my day job, (more in the about me section). But this is a chance and a place for me to share what I'm learning, as well as find others on this journey as well.

I'm a couple years into this journey already, but here's some of the highlights about me.

Matthew Furukawa, (me the photographer, blogger, and all-around nerd)

Blue Cup Studios, my brand as a photographer, the name came from a YouTube channel I started with a bunch of friends many years ago, we've since all moved on, but I really liked the name so I still use it.

What I shoot: Wildlife is my biggest passion, followed by concert photography. But I'll dabble in just about anything, from portraits to weddings to commercial work.

Full-time or part-time: Part-time, bordering on hobbyist as far as the time commitment goes, I have a very full-time job that I love and have no desire to leave, even if I made enough to go full-time in photography.

My Goal as a photographer: I want to produce professional quality work in my wildlife photography.

So welcome to my journey, I hope you'll join me as we go Behind the Lens.
